The Blog Is Where It's At

When I first created my blog page for English I thought to myself, "oh, this is going to suck!" But after I posted more and more it started to become fun. It's fun to be creative with our topics that we have been dicussing. The blog page provides a great way to let the teacher hear what each student has to think about what's being discussed in class. Usually I don't participate that much in class but when I come onto my blog i'm not worried about anything and just speak my mind about each topic. Students don't have to worry about being nervous or anything because they are right at the leasure of their own home. I also like the blog because it gives you sense of what everyone in class is like outside of the classroom. I'm really glad that I created this page at the beginning of the semester and wish that more teacher did this kind of thing for participation points.

The Secret Life of Bees

In the book The Secret Life of Bees the main conflict that I see is that Lily is trying to find direction in her life. I think that Lily thinks that her mother is giving her signs about certain things like "Our Chains of Mary." I believe that Lily is making the right decisions by following the voices in her head because if she would have stayed with T. Ray she would of been living an unfullfilling life. I would be doing the same things as she is if I were in her situation. Lily had killed her mom and if she didn't try and venture out I think she wouldnt be respecting her mother. I feel as if her mother wanted a better life for her than living with T. Ray and that she had respected her mother by running away and meeting August and the family with the bees.

Normal Isn't So Good

In class at the beginning of the semester we discussed a lot about how the internet is changing everyone's lives. In my opinion the internet is completely changing everyone's lives. There are very few people that are still in touch with reality these days. Not only internet but also the media and television is what makes us lose touch with things like nature, family, and friends.

These last few months I've realized that i've lost touch with reality and have been trying to do things to change it. I realized after graduating highschool that highschool makes you want to conform into the normal teenager that parties, goes to class, and sleeps a lot. Lately I have been trying to break that habit and be unique and do fun things that most teenagers don't do. For example, my neighbors own a boat and almost everyday now we go out to the lake and wakeboard and have fun. I leave my phone at home and just enjoy the company of others around me. I've also been trying to enjoy the time that I have with friends and family because you never know when your life could be over.

After doing activities that are outside where you can experience nature it opens my eyes to what is really fun. Many people come home from school or work and sit on the couch and watch TV, but that's just not me anymore. I want to do things and not be "normal." Go have fun exciting experiences in the outdoors that you can tell stories about. In my eyes normal isn't a good thing!

Project X

Have you ever been to a party where a car gets driven into a pool? Well in the movie Project X by Nima Nourizadeh that is exactly what happened. The movie is based around a teenager named Thomas (Thomas Mann) and his two friends Costa (Oliver Cooper) and J.B. (Jonathan Daniel Brown) who are trying to throw a huge party so that they can become popular at school. Before Thomas could stop him, he finds out that Costa invited hundreds and hundreds of people to Thomas' house. The party gets so out of control that there's about three DJ's, people all over the neighborhood, cops everywhere, and like i said his dad's mercedes benz gets driven into to pool. I picked this movie because it is basically a teenagers dream party. There are beautiful girls every where, loud music, and everyone is drinking and having a great time. This movie is a comedy and has very funny scenes. If I had to guess I would say that the main message is that if you have a huge party your most likely going to be recognized at school. This movie wasn't a very serious movie that was it is so enjoyable to watch. It makes you want to just go out and party with your friends. I would recommend this movie to any ages because it may bring back memories from when you used to crazy!

The Time Machine

The book I read was The Time Machine, by H. G. Wells, was published in 1895 by New American Library and is 106 pages. The book starts off with the main character, The Time Traveller, who is a English scientist that lives in Richmond, London. He explains to his weekly dinner guests that time is the fourth dimension and shows them his model of a time machine and introduces that he has built a real time machine. The story actually begins when the time traveller comes into the door for dinner a week later to explain his time traveling experience. He explains that he went into the future to the time of 802,701 A.D. where he meets these new creatures called Eloi and Morlocks. Eloi live above ground in big buildings and do not work at all, while the Morlocks are all under ground and are constantly working to keep society going for the Eloi. The Time Traveller ends up finding out that the Morlocks have taken his time machine and throughout the book he is trying to figure out how to get it back. In the end The Time Traveller ends up getting his time machine back and goes further into the future about 30 million years, soon to see that Earth is deteriorating. Only to come back a week later to his dinner guests to tell his story. While reading this book I didn't really like the descriptive details because they were very hard to understand. Although i liked all the characters because it was very interesting to see how H. G. Wells created his own "future." "I was in the dark, trapped. So the Morlocks thought. At that i chuckled gleefully." I thought this what a very important quote because when you think of the future you would think that the individuals would be a lot smarter but this shows that The Time Traveller was not fooled by the Morlocks. I would recommend this book to all ages because it is great comparison to the world we live in today. It also is very descriptive and gives you a great image to follow while you are reading. Most enjoyable book I have read in a while!

Violent TV

In my opinion I believe that violent television doesn't  influence kids as much as everyone thinks. I think rather than kids committing violent acts from TV they commit violent acts because of the area they live in and who they hang around with. I understand that kids are becoming more violent at younger ages but that doesn't mean they are doing it because they saw it on TV. I believe that TV is created to entertain us and not turn us in to bad civilians. On the other hand, I do think that kids watch to much TV and if you are watching to many hours of TV you probably will get influenced by it. But, it doesn't mean kids watch violent shows every time they turn on the television. People don't realize that they have their own choices in life and can do whatever they want, just because there is something violent on TV doesn't mean you automatically think it is right and go commit a crime. It's all about who is is your life and who influences you outside of TV that helps you make better decisions.

PBS Culture Shock

Videos games are a form of art because they are descriptive images that are 3-dimensional. I think that the images are objectionable because some of them are not suitable for all age and may project violence. No it was not difficult to choose if the image was appropriate or not to be on the home page of this website. The quotes from this website did not sway our decision because video games are just “games” and should not be compared or perceived to act like the game in real life. We do not believe that violence occurs from video games but rather is a social outlet to let your anger out.
