Q (6.) On page 128, the cartoon that is drawn explains how nervous Arnold is to let the Reardan kids see that he is poor. During this part of the book Arnold exposes his low-class family. He and Penelope get invited to go to a 24-hour diner to go get pancakes with the upperclassmen after the dance. He had been hiding from everyone that he came from a low-class family so that he wouldn’t get made fun of. As soon as they got to the diner he knew he wouldn’t be able to pay for his and Penelope’s food but to his surprise his trustworthy friend, Roger, fronted him $40. After that he had to confess to Roger and Penelope that he was poor. In this cartoon it also shows how desperate Arnold was to find some kind of excuse just to show that he was not poor. To his surprise nobody made fun of him and were very supportive and Roger even gave him a ride home from the school so he didn’t have to walk home.
